Odense Canal Bridge and Building

The competition asks for a moveable bridge to be designed next to a new canal administration building. The project presents the opportunity to design a unique environment where a bridge and a building can converse together forming a sculptural landscape. The idea is to turn this facility into an important symbol or landmark in the flat landscape of Odense.

The swivel bridge and the administration building are stemming from the same concept. The bridge’s aesthetic is a direct reflection of the static forces at play, both in closed and open positions. Therein lies the logic and beauty of form. The building is arranged in harmony with the bridge with service functions and office space oriented towards the light, the crossing and the canal.

Developed as part of a small team while working at Dissing+Weitling Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark.
