The project consist in the design of the road expansion of the highways A1/A6 (Diemen – Almere Havendreef). This is one of five sub-projects concerning the road expansion Schiphol – Amsterdam – Almere (SAA).
The new improvements aim at facilitating accessibility around the Amsterdam area and increasing safety and viability in the region.
The expansion of the A1/A6, over a distance of 23 km, concerns widening the route with additional lanes. The design includes almost fifty specific works, including viaducts, ecopassages, underpasses, fly-overs, bridges, and four so-called “special works”, namely, the A1 canal crossing, a new bridge over the Amsterdam-Rhine canal (between Diemen and IJburg), the A1 river crossing, an aquaduct under the river Vecht, the A1 new arch railway bridge (Hakkelaarsbrug in Muiderberg) and the A6 Hollandse Brug. Construction started in 2014 and works are expected to be finished by 2020.
This project is part of the consortium SAAone (consisting of VolkerWessels, Boskalis, HOCHTIEF and DIF) in collaboration with Okra for the Department of Waterways and Public Works (“Rijkswaterstaat”).
I worked as part of the team mainly on the new arch railway bridge in Muderberg and on some ecopassages and underpasses, developing 2D drawings and 3D models. I also finalized visualizations together with Okra, the landscape partner.
Developed as part of a large team while working at Zwarts & Jansma Architects in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
