Simplicity Church

Idea for a generic church somewhere in northern Europe. The concept is an interpretation of both an archetypal and prototypical church. Externally, the church is shaped like a vernacular house, a place where believers should feel welcome and safe. The pure archetypal shape (roof and walls) is homogeneously cladded with dark metal sheets which reflect the light.

The interior (the sacred space) is all made in wood. On the front façade, just above the entrance a vertical cut lets the natural light in during the day, and the artificial light out at night. On the back façade, behind the altar, a horizontal cut does the same. The cuts let the light come in and form a cross light in the middle of the church.
